Diabetes

There are two types of Diabetes – Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is typically (but not always) diagnosed in childhood while Type 2 diabetes usually develops in adulthood.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and men are 2-3 times more likely to have undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes.

If you have a history of diabetes in your family, if you are overweight, have high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, you have an increased risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes can sometimes be prevented and treated with diet and exercise or may require medication. You can see full details about Diabetes and the two types here on the Diabetes Ireland website.

If you have any concerns about diabetes, you should consult your GP to discuss any symptoms and queries.
