Blood pressure checking is essential for the diagnosis and management of many common ailments and several chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac and lung conditions etc. The doctor or nurse may check your blood pressure using a manual or digital machine. Sometimes, the doctor will recommend the use of a 24 hour Blood Pressure (BP) Monitor to track your blood pressure readings over a full day. This can be a very effective tool in reviewing medication, treatment etc. If the Doctor recommends a 24 Hour BP Monitor, you will need to come into the surgery two days in a row – the first to have the monitor placed on your arm, and the following day to have it removed. The results will then be reviewed by the Practice Nurse and the Doctor and any follow-up actions, including changes to medication or treatment will be discussed with you.
